For the first time in 38 years, the CEO of Chicago-based community lender IFF will work out of Detroit — a sign of the nonprofit’s growing ambitions in the city.
Kirby Burkholder, who became the CEO of IFF on Jan. 1, said the organization’s plans to nurture Detroit into a hub for IFF include expanding its investments and growing its Detroit team.
It also helps, he said, that he’s been based in the Detroit metro area for over a decade.
“Detroit is the place that we’re really trying to kind of nurture as a hub,” Burkholder said. “There’s a real desire for anchored investment, where we start to bring all of IFF’s resources and programs to bear in geography, and so there’s a real intention about those investments in the community.”
