Inside INdiana Business: South Bend Energy Program Spurs $3.6M in Investment, Helps Organizations Redirect Funds June 24, 2026

A paywalled story published by Inside INdiana Business highlighted the impact of the Energy Assistance and Solar Savings Initiative (EASSI) in South Bend, IN. The program—a partnership between IFF, the City of South Bend, and CDFI Friendly South Bend—helps local nonprofits increase the energy efficiency of their facilities and reduce their operating costs. Included below is an excerpt from the article and a link to the full story on the Inside INdiana Business website.

When the Studebaker National Museum began looking at ways to reduce operating costs, leaders expected the solution might be as simple as replacing lights or sealing windows. The project has become one of the most visible examples of how South Bend’s Energy Assistance and Solar Savings Initiative, or EASSI, is helping nonprofits and businesses turn energy efficiency investments into long term financial gains.

Since its launch in 2022, EASSI has completed more than 37 energy assessments, supported 15 solar projects representing nearly one megawatt of generation capacity and helped deliver more than 30 energy-efficiency projects ranging from HVAC upgrades and weatherization to lighting improvements and equipment electrification.
